TBV Trauma: The Hidden Pain in the Latest Character Database

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex (TBV) is on break this month, but that doesn't mean the #10-2026 issue of V-Jump didn't deliver for the Boruto fandom. In lieu of a regular chapter, readers received a six-question Q&A with Mikio Ikemoto as well as updated character database entries for many characters in TBV. While these listings generally contain nice-to-know factoids, the information released this month actually carries weighty insight into how Omnipotence has effected many characters as well as their psychological states.

Let's dig into them, shall we?

Boruto Uzumaki

"Boruto: The one-eyed rebel who bears the weight of fate."

While Boruto's favorite foods—burgers, fries, soda, and spicy things—have remained the same, his hobbies have drastically shifted since the days of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations (NNG) when he was seen spending his free time playing video games or collecting X-cards. At fifteen, Boruto's hobbies now are "meditation and making accessories for the Flying Raijin."

Unlike many of his peers who have maintained some hobbies for leisure, Boruto has fully thrown himself into the life of a dedicated ninja, having few interests beyond his shinobi way—something that should remind us all of Sasuke and Boruto's desire to be like his master.

His meditation practice is particularly of note as shinobi use meditation to cultivate a sense of calm in highly stressful situations and master their chakra control. This is the exact type of drill Kawaki rebelled against in chapter 58 of NNG, leading to conflict among Team 7, and the same sort of practice that Amado alluded to in TBV chapter 35 when he said that the toad power hack "...works essentially the way ninja exercise chakra control. I figured it'd suit a rationalist like you who eschews formal training."

However, the fact that meditation has become a hobby for Boruto rather than a simple exercise implies that it's what he does in his free time, spending what little leisure time he has in meditation. The manga itself makes the reason for this clear: Boruto needs to be able to instantly calm his mind and body to combat Momoshiki's attempts to take over whenever his karma is activated.

We see this at play twice in the manga, first when Kawaki accidentally triggers Boruto's Karma during their confrontation in Konoha and in the second arc when he's prepared for it to happen again when Kawaki joins the battle against Jura. During the second instance, we see Boruto speaking to his own body, telling it to calm itself. Even further proof that his meditation is related to Momoshiki is the instance during which he willingly seeks the Otsutsuki freeloader by adopting a meditation-like pose, closing his eyes, and then manifesting inside his own head to have a discussion with him.

The fact that meditation has replaced all the hobbies and interests he used to have (beyond metalworking!) tells us that Boruto is deeply aware how dangerous Momoshiki is inside of him. The visions Koji has also puts a tremendous amount of pressure on Boruto's shoulders, his continued survival and involvement pivotal to keep the worst possible futures from coming to pass. Meditation may be his only way of managing the "weight of fate" that he's now carrying.

Also of note: Boruto's least favorite food is shellfish because he hates shelling it. Keep this in mind because there's another individual who hates shellfish coming up.

Inojin Yamanaka

Inojin, creator of the "Mind Transfer Formation" jutsu.

The members of Team 10 show how Boruto's peers who remained in Konoha under the affect of Omnipotence have continued their young lives despite the tragedy that surrounds them. Inojin's hobbies are listed as drawing and playing first-person-shooter games, fitting for someone whose Mind Transfer jutsu has them seeing through another individual's eyes and controlling their body.

One of Inojin's favorite foods is cheese, entertaining because it's the least-favorite food of the girl he's crushing on.

Shikadai Nara

Shikadai, "the Shadow's support."

I've previously written about the way in which Omnipotence wasn't just a single swap between Boruto and Kawaki. Rather, numerous characters in the story switched roles: Himawari became like her father, an Uzumaki child living alone. Sarada became like Kawaki, a loud outcast who sees danger in the Hokage's son that everyone else dismisses, and Shikadai switching roles with Boruto, becoming the current Hokage's son.

During the first part of the manga (and in the anime), Shikadai is a very diligent young shinobi, caring more about his father's reputation than Boruto does about Naruto's. He carries the weight of his clan on his shoulders, knowing that how he acts will reflect on his father. In TBV, he seems more lackadaisical, adopting napping as one of his hobbies, something his father did in his younger years. Like Inojin, he enjoys playing video games, simulations rather than first-person shooters. Both the male members of Team 10 used to play video games with Boruto, but he's been forced to give up the hobby due to the seriousness of his circumstances while they've been able to remain teenagers.

Sarada Uchiha

"Sarada: A descendant of the Uchiha who can see the truth clearly."

Sarada's unwavering nature shines through in her database entry. Her likes and dislikes have remained consistent since NNG just as her perception of the world has remained the same. While her hobby is still reading, the specific genres she's interested in say much more about her character—historical works and mysteries. Both as a character who aspires to be Hokage and the last member of a clan with a fate hidden in secrecy, a focus on history is both educational and enlightening as she tries to understand the past and her own place in it. Her interest in mysteries corresponds with her inquisitive nature as she tries to understand Omnipotence and how she can fix the world when few others see the same truth that she does.

Kawaki Uzumaki

"Kawaki: The 'Hokage's son' who will destroy the Otsutsuki."

Kawaki's database entry is fascinating. After much speculation, readers finally get confirmation that he's seventeen, two years older than Boruto. While it's well-known that his favorite food is taiyaki, we learn that his least favorite foods are wasabi, celery, and natto, noting that "he has a childish palate."

What's notable about this is that when Kawaki first arrived in Konoha, he didn't know what foods he liked. His past with his father and in Kara had been so restrictive that he was unaware of the different foods available to him. In a one-page story in one of the manga volumes, Shikadai decided to play a trick on Kawaki to welcome him to Konoha by giving him a wasabi-filled taiyaki, which he ate with relish, demonstrating that his dislike only developed later. In the context of his character, this makes a lot of sense. For the past three years, Kawaki has been experiencing the freedom of choice for the first time, later in life than most people do. As such, he dislikes pungent tastes while lacking adults around him to encourage him to try more challenging foods.

For the first time, fans learn about Kawaki's hobbies: puzzle and spot-the-difference games, both of which are laden with meaning. Kawaki didn't have hobbies when he arrived in Konoha, but after shattering and fixing the vase in the Uzumaki house, he how spends his free time putting puzzles together over and over, following the same process of fitting together pieces to form a whole.

The spot-the-difference game (which the database notes he's competitive about) is darkly funny being that he exists in a world where no one can spot the difference between who Boruto used to be and who Kawaki is now. Additionally, Kawaki himself is no longer able to differentiate who Boruto is and the threat of Momoshiki inside of him. In the panel below, we have a side-by-side of him seeing the same person despite their differences.

Something else that's notable about Kawaki's hobbies is that both of them are solitary and neither are digital, the exact opposite of Boruto's former enjoyment of X-cards and video games, yet no one can comprehend the differences between then due to Omnipotence.

ChoCho Akimichi

"ChoCho: A young shinobi brimming with 'energy.'"

ChoCho likes all foods and doesn't dislike any. Her hobbies are trying new foods (though she's lost Sarada, her dessert-tasting partner, and replaced her with Himawari). She also likes watching television dramas, a habit that she has now imparted to the youngest Uzumaki as well.

Like all the other members of Team 10, ChoCho demonstrates how the lives of those living under Omnipotence has continued even after Naruto's "death," and that the ones who are not affected, as Momoshiki once said, suffer the most.

Himawari Uzumaki

"Himawari: The new partner of Kurama."

At twelve-years-old, Himawari lives on her own in the empty Uzumaki household, eating honey and putting olive oil on everything (except cheese, which she doesn't like). She likes watching television because of ChoCho, but her other hobby is cleaning. Like Boruto and meditation, household chores aren't exactly a hobby. Instead, it's a coping mechanism to deal with the absence of her family. Alone in the house, she spends all day cleaning so that it's ready for the day her family returns. However, one girl on her own can't make that much of a mess, which indicates that (again, like Boruto and meditating) this is something that goes beyond simple practicality. She's not cleaning for the sake of having a clean house, but using it to have some degree of control over the only thing that remains a constant in her life, hoping that her dedication will mean her family will return.

Also of note, having Kurama inside of her and doing the household chores, Himawari has had to become both her mother and her father, in a sense, taking on the burden of housework that Hinata had while also being the host for the nine-tails as her father had been.

Mitsuki

"Mitsuki: A clone who wields the power of the Great Snakes."

Like Sarada, Mitsuki's preferences have remained stable since his NNG years. What's notable is his hobbies: Reading data books and card games. While Mitsuki has always been a walking fount of information, in NNG, he expressed to Sarada his disinterest in card games when she asked about X-cards. He's never seen playing with Boruto, Shikadai, and Inojin, remaining on the sidelines with Sarada. This change could be read as him trying to find the old Boruto by taking up his hobbies, trying to reconnect with his sun after his sun's light has gone out. Similarly, his fascination with data books could be that he senses something amiss in the world and is continually seeking out confirmation of what's real.

Sumire Kakei

"Sumire: The former Class Representative who watches over the shinobi."

Sumire's database entry might be one of the more tragic ones. Earlier, we knew that her favorite food is fried bread crusts and that she doesn't really dislike anything due to having grown up in poverty, but we learn that her hobbies are saving money and pickling vegetables. Like Boruto and Himawari, she has a hobby that's not really a hobby but a trauma response to her past, worrying about running out of money because she knows what it's like to have nothing. While pickling vegetables combines science with eating, it's also a way of preserving unused produce so it doesn't go to waste.

During the Q&A portion, Ikemoto discussed the difference between Sarada and Sumire's approaches to Boruto, Sarada who never stopped advocating for him no matter what it did to her reputation compared to Sumire who purposefully tried to fly under the radar and avoid suspicion. If we take her fear of poverty into account, especially compared to Sarada who has a mother with a prominent job in the village, it makes more sense for Sumire to be more passive in her support of Boruto (beyond what an be explained by simple personality differences) and try to avoid sticking her neck out for fear of losing her position in the village and the stability that it brings.

Eida

"Eida: A beautiful woman who presides over Omnipotence."

Like Boruto, Eida dislikes shellfish, so if the conversation she wants to have with him devolves into a love confession, we know they're not going to Red Lobster together. Her favorite food is basashi, or thinly sliced raw horse meat, likened to the pink color of Sakura flowers. Let's hope this isn't a warning sign that she might put the Uchiha family in further danger. Unlike the other entries that have hobbies, Eida has an aspiration—to have pajama parties. Despite being nineteen, like Kawaki, Eida is young for her age, trying to recapture experiences she missed out on during her younger years, such as having a girls' sleepover. That it's an aspiration implies it hasn't happened yet, that kind of friendship and closeness still something she's longing for, perhaps even more than romance.

Others

We find out that Daemon is 13, Code is 18, and Amado is 59. Unfortunately, no birthdays, foods, or hobbies for them, though I bet Amado's favorite past time is smoking.

Conclusion

The database entries were a surprisingly rich text, not just telling readers about the characters, but also about how their lives have been affected by Omnipotence. So many of the characters have interests directly related to their ongoing struggles—their hobbies are not really hobbies but an extension of the trauma they're all still going through.
